Years ago I use to drink quite a bit of diet coke thinking at least was the ‘healthier’ option of the Coke family.
When we decided to have children we made the decision not to have it in the house.
Based on a new study I am very glad of this.
Researchers at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Israel and Nanyang Technological University in Singapore found sugar substitutes hamper the growth of bacteria living in our guts.
The study is showing the artificial sweetener, such as aspartame, found in Coke can be toxic to the gut bacteria.
After dosing hundreds of times, the researchers found artificial sweeteners had a stressing effect on the gut bacteria and it stops its ability to grow and reproduce.
The major take home from the study is “do not use artificial sweeteners”
